Gyotaku- The Art of the Fish Print

February 2 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

This is a 6 hour beginning workshop, suitable for anyone over the age of 12.  Students learn the elements of creating a fish print using oil based relief inks on Asian rice paper. Subjects covered are selection of the fish, cleaning and preparation, inking methods and types of rice paper.  We will be using both fresh and previously printed fish.

Emphasis is on the creation of a realistic print, utilizing the elements of design, balance, value, and shading to achieve a pleasing overall image. We’ll also paint in the eyes so that all prints will be completed at the end of the day. Expect to leave the class with at least four completed prints of two or more different fish. All fish and specialized materials are provided, but students may bring in their own fish for the class.   This is an intense workshop, and we all work hard, and students are delighted by the gyotaku they produce in it.

Please bring a lunch and beverage.  All materials are provided but you may bring your own fish (optional).

Best way to register is to email Heather at fishprint@gmail.com.  You will receive a reply/confirmation email.
