Methods of Mounting for the Nature Printer

February 7 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

In the past six years my students have created many many nature prints on rice papers, rag paper, cloth, leather, vellum, and tissue. Getting them ready to hang on the wall is a challenge to all artists. This is a workshop I developed to the Nature Printing Society, in which we did a modified Japanese wet mount onto different surfaces, including gallery wrapped canvas, flat canvas,  cradled wood panels, and onto another piece of paper for the traditional matting and framing.  After drying and application of the surface media the pieces were then ready to hang on the wall.

In this workshop you learn about the qualities of the different adhesives available, and a variety of finishing media.  Each student will have the opportunity to mount 2-4 pieces, depending on size.  The pieces to be mounted must be completed work (we will use an arcieces toghival spray to set any soluable ink).Lessons n this session include layering pether, collaging, sandwiching items in the mounted piece, and using dyed paper (provided) to add interest to your pieces, and the process of wet mounting paper or cloth.

We will use gallery wrapped canvas and cradled wood panels and flat masonite boards for this process.  Students need to supply the sizes of their work at least 10 days before the workshop to allow for ordering the  appropriate sized panels and canvases.

The final cost of the workshop will depend on the size of pieces to be mounted:  I will give you an estimate of your material cost when I receive your sizes.   I have 11 x 14 and 12 x 16 gallery wrapped canvasses that are included in the basic cost of the class.  If you just want to learn mounting and do not have work then I have extra practice nature printed pieces that can be used.   The cost of the workshop  as listed is just for the workshop, which includes all supplies except larger canvasses and panels.
