This is a class at the community college.   Learn to identify and sample the common edible seaweeds of your local beaches.  The class focus is the easily identifiable seaweeds such as bull kelp, nori, and rockweed.  There will be a few samples of some of the dishes made with local seaweeds, especially bull kelp pickles. The class also addresses collecting regulations and restrictions.

This is an exciting course, as fun as it is fulfilling.  We will be nature printing botanical specimens onto fabric- you'll start by practicing on some plain cotton fabric, then  when you are comfortable you'll  advance onto t-shirts or other clothing you have provided. In Hawai’i the fishermen love to get a gyotaku image of their fish before it goes on the table. Contemporary gyotaku artists in Hawai’i have perfected a method of taking a quick print of the chilled fish with sumi ink. This is a version of a workshop that I learned and then taught in Hawaii, and have taught in Florida and in Oregon for a Master Gardener group.  These are heirloom wreaths, made from dried materials that look the same year after year.
